SER8 vs used RTX 3090: count the whole computer
Compare a SER8 8845HS with 32 GB/1 TB against a used RTX 3090 in an existing compatible desktop or a new build. A dated research guide, not a benchmark.
SER8 vs used RTX 3090: count the whole computer?
If you already own a compatible desktop, compare the used RTX 3090 plus any required upgrades against the complete SER8. If you own neither, include the entire desktop build. We have no verified current price for either exact setup, so there is no defensible dollar winner yet.

A SER8 is a computer; a used RTX 3090 is a component. Comparing their sticker prices only works after you account for the rest of the desktop. Our recommendation is to price both complete, usable setups before choosing, then check that your chosen AI application supports the exact hardware.
Evidence: sourced research checked 9 October 2026, not a hands-on test. We have not measured these systems against each other. There are no verified current configuration-matched offers here, and no promised response times or savings.

Match the configuration before the price
This comparison means the SER8 with Ryzen 7 8845HS, 32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD, versus a used RTX 3090 with 24 GB VRAM. System RAM and dedicated graphics memory are different pools; neither number alone tells you what a model will fit after application, context and operating-system overhead. Use the local-LLM VRAM guide to estimate the weights and context budget before choosing a hardware tier.
The Beelink manufacturer page currently selects 24 GB/1 TB in the fetched purchase selector, while other page sections describe different memory configurations. That does not establish a 32 GB/1 TB offer. Confirm CPU, installed RAM, SSD, regional adapter, delivered price and return terms on the actual order. We have not verified a current price or stock for the configuration compared here. Do not carry a price from one variant over to another.
NVIDIA’s specifications list 24 GB GDDR6X for the RTX 3090. Its Founders Edition is a three-slot, 313 mm card; NVIDIA lists 350 W graphics-card power and 750 W required system power for its reference setup. Those are specifications, not our measurements. Partner cards can differ in size, connectors and requirements. Check the exact card maker’s instructions and your PSU cables, airflow and clearance. A spare PCIe slot alone does not establish compatibility.
Three honest purchase totals
Use delivered quotes in the same currency and on the same date. Count tax and shipping once. An already-owned item adds no new purchase outlay only if it is actually suitable and available for this job.
| Starting point | Complete purchase total to compare |
|---|---|
| Buy the SER8 | Exact mini-PC configuration + missing peripherals or storage + tax/shipping |
| Own a compatible desktop | Exact used card + required PSU/case/cooling or other upgrades + tax/shipping |
| Buy the desktop too | Card + CPU + motherboard + RAM + SSD + PSU + case + CPU cooler/case fans + any OS license + missing peripherals + tax/shipping |
For the desktop, either total the components or use the price of a compatible complete base system and add only what it lacks. Do not count those parts twice. Include a monitor and input devices on either side if you need to buy them; headless use still needs an initial setup plan. Keep installation time and a used-hardware repair allowance visible, even when you cannot price them yet.
The existing-desktop route wins on purchase cost only when its delivered card and upgrade total is lower than the SER8 total. Buying everything changes that comparison; it does not automatically make the desktop a bad choice. It may be worth paying more for a GPU your particular software supports.
A used-card search is not a seller quote. Record the exact board model, condition, return window, warranty if any, and seller evidence of operation. Used does not always mean no warranty, and an attractive asking price does not establish a working card. No current used-card price or complete-system quote was verified for this article.
Add running cost without pretending to have measured it
Annual electricity cost = average whole-system watts / 1,000 × annual hours × your electricity price per kWh. If idle and active use differ, calculate them separately and add them. Compare the same workload and useful output.
For arithmetic only, a hypothetical 100 W average for 1,000 hours at $0.15/kWh costs $15. This is not a SER8 or RTX 3090 measurement. A 350 W GPU specification cannot stand in for the desktop’s wall power, and a mini PC’s idle reading cannot stand in for its AI load. We cannot calculate a measured break-even date without actual prices, workload power and usage time.
Check the software before ordering
Ollama’s hardware documentation lists the RTX 3090 under NVIDIA support. Its current AMD ROCm lists do not list the Radeon 780M; the documentation describes additional support through Vulkan. Do not infer accelerated SER8 support just from the AMD name or its shared memory. Verify the OS, application version, backend and driver combination you intend to use. CPU fallback and a GPU-accelerated run are not interchangeable performance claims.
If you want a small complete computer, start with the SER8 research notes. If you already have a suitable tower and need supported GPU acceleration, use the RTX 3090 buying notes. For other memory and form-factor choices, see the home-AI guide. Keep the purchase on hold if the exact configuration, compatibility or return terms are unclear.
